Multi-property renewable programmes are difficult because completion is not one event. A property might have been surveyed, materials delivered and equipment installed while still waiting for electrical work, commissioning, DNO information or final handover evidence.
Track stages separately
A useful property tracker should separate survey, design, DNO, materials, installation, electrical works, commissioning and handover. Avoid a single “complete/incomplete” column because it hides the exact blocker.
Make Not Required a real status
On mixed programmes, not every property receives every technology. A controlled Not Required status prevents blank cells being mistaken for missing information.
Record access as its own workstream
For occupied properties, access is often a programme risk in its own right. Track whether the appointment is confirmed, whether access failed and whether a revisit is needed.
Separate installation from close-out
Physical installation is only part of delivery. Certification, commissioning records, photos, warranties, O&M information and client sign-off can all remain outstanding after the engineer leaves.
Use an issues log for technical blockers
Problems such as monitoring, communications, electrical supply, DNO queries or commissioning faults should have an issue reference, owner, target date, status and resolution. That prevents recurring faults disappearing inside emails and messaging threads.
Review portfolio-level KPIs
For larger programmes, the project manager needs a quick view of total properties, completed properties, at-risk properties, access issues and progress by technology. This is more actionable than manually counting rows before every meeting.
